平面方向の調査において土壌または地下水から環境基準を超える汚染物質が検出された1,475地点で、深さ方向の汚染状況を把握するために、ガス工場操業時の地盤面から不透水層（水を通しにくい地層）の上端まで、深さ方向に1メートル間隔で、土壌を採取し分析しました。その結果、深さ方向全体に汚染が広がっているわけではないことも明らかになりました。
