若年無業者の推移をみると、女性は平成 14（2002）年に 24 万人となったが、その後は平成 24（2012） 年以降は減少傾向にあり、平成 28（2016）年は 20 万人となっている。男性は平成 14（2002）年以 降、40 万人台前後で推移していたが平成 24（2012）年以降は女性と同様に減少しており、平成 28 （2016）年は 37 万人となっている。
