都・全国ともに女性の大学・短期大学への進学率は、一貫して男性の進学率を上回っている。 都では、女性はほぼ一貫して増加傾向にあり、平成 28（2016）年には 69.9％となっている。男性は 平成 4（1992）年以降増加傾向となり、平成 28（2016）年には 62.9％となっている。
